After six long months, East Coast Wizards hockey has finally returned.
The Wizards will travel to Newington Ice Arena Thursday afternoon to take on the Connecticut Chiefs in their 2021-22 season opener. Puck drop is scheduled for 12:30 PM EDT. East Coast is coming off of a fourth-place finish last year, tied with the Worcester Railers Jr. Hockey Club in a highly-competitive Central Division. The Chiefs finished just two points ahead of the Wizards in third place. However, East Coast took two out of three games between the two teams in 2020-21, including both games in Newington.
Wizards head coach and general manager Kory Falite returns for his second season in both positions. This will be Falite’s sixth season overall with the team after spending four seasons as an assistant coach under his predecessor Freddy Meyer.
Returning along with Falite is a number of familiar faces, including forward Will Jennings. The 20-year-old from Arlington, Massachusetts tallied 39 points in as many games last season and played a huge role in the playoffs, scoring three goals and four assists during the Wizards’ three postseason games. Joining Jennings in returning will be forward Ryan Webb, whose 16 goals and 37 points were good enough for second on the team in both categories.
After Thursday’s opener, the Wizards travel back to Bedford as they open their home schedule at The Edge Sports Center Friday afternoon against the Valley Jr. Warriors at 12:30 PM EDT. East Coast then gets Saturday off before wrapping up their first week with a trip to Hooksett to take on the New Hampshire Avalanche Sunday afternoon at 4:30 PM EDT.
