BEDFORD, MA -- The Wizards and Boston Jr. Rangers met up for a pair of divisional matchups this past weekend. Coming into the weekend, the 2 teams had faced-off once before, with the Wizards coming away with a 3-1 victory.
On Friday, the teams hit the ice for a 1:00pm puck drop at The Edge Sports Center. After a scoreless 1st period, the Rangers got on the board first just under 5 minutes into the 2nd. However, Michael Namon tied up the game near the end of the frame to send the game into the 3rd period with a 1-1 score. The Rangers would go on to outscore the Wizards 3-1 in the 3rd period, and win the game by a final of 4-2. Dylan Schuett picked up the lone goal for the Wizards in the frame.
On Saturday, the squad traveled up to Tewksbury for the second game of the home-and-home series. Matt Letmanski got the Wizards on the board first, just 8 minutes into the first period, and they took a 1-0 into the break. Elliot Fletcher put the boys up 2-0 with a goal just 11 seconds into the 2nd period, but it was quickly answered less than minute later by the Rangers, cutting the lead back down to 1. Devin Panzeca added another goal for the Wizards as they went into the final frame with a 3-1 lead. Both teams added a pair of goals each in the 3rd, and the Wizards won by a final score of 5-3. Panzeca picked up another tally as well as an assist on an empty-netter by Letmanski. Korbinian Lutz made 34 saves on the win, bringing his record up to an impressive 7-2-0 for the season. Equally as impressive, Panzeca has now had a role in 8 goals the Wizards have scored so far this season at Breakaway Ice Center (home of the Rangers). The Wizards have scored 8 goals in Tewksbury, with the '97 forward scoring 2 of them and assisting on the other 6.
After the split this weekend, the Wizards still sit in 3rd place in the Boston Division with a record of 10-7-0. The squad has a busy week coming up, starting with a game in Walpole against the Express on Wednesday and followed by a matchup back in Bedford against the Total Athletic Seahawks on Friday. The team will then turn around and play in a 2-day showcase at the Haverhill Vally Forum on Sunday and Monday.
