BEDFORD, MA -- The Eastern Hockey League put together the third showcase of the season this past Sunday and Monday at Rodman Arena in Walpole, MA. There were over 60 scouts from various schools and programs in attendance over the course of the two-day event.
On Sunday, the Wizards looked to avenge their early season loss to the New York Bobcats Royals and end their two-game losing skid. Trent Pitser put the Wizards on the board first just over six minutes into the game. The score remained 1-0 until the Wizards leading showcase scorer, Devin Panzeca, added some insurance in the final minutes of the game to seal the win for the Wizards. Alec Marshall made 13 saves for his second shutout of the season.
Switching gears over to Monday, the Wizards matched up against the Connecticut Oilers for the final time in the regular season. Panzeca extended his goal streak to three games with a short-hander to open up the scoring just over the 12 minutes into the first half. Both teams went back and forth in the remaining minutes of the half as Pitser picked up another goal for the Wizards and the two teams went into the intermission all tied up at two goals apiece. Just past the 13-minute mark of the second half, Jeremy Vasquez ripped a shot passed the Oilers goaltender from a tough angle to give the Wizards the 3-2 lead. Marshall held off the Oilers in net for the rest of the game, stopping 29 shots in total and giving the Wizards their second win of the showcase. The team is now 4-2-0 in showcase play so far this season.
The league is going into the winter intermission for the next couple weeks, and play will resume on January 5th when the Wizards will travel to Haverhill to play the Valley Jr. Warriors.
