HAVERHILL, MA -- The Wizards returned from the holiday break right where they left off, with a win on the road yesterday against the Valley Jr. Warriors. With the win, the Wizards improve to 19-13-0 on the season and are now just 7 points behind the 2nd place Walpole Express.
"It was a solid effort from our group," said Wizards head coach and general manager Freddy Meyer. "Of course it took us until the 3rd period to find the back of the net, but Kory [Falite] and I were very happy with the way our guys controlled the play throughout the contest."
The Warriors got on the board first with a goal 13 minutes into the 1st period. Despite outshooting the Warriors 32-17 over the first 2 periods, The Wizards found themselves trailing 1-0 heading into the final frame. However, it didn’t take long for Devin Panzeca to knot up the game at 1 goal apiece just under 7 minutes into the period. Later, Andy Sommerville notched his 4th goal of the season to give the Wizards the lead at the 13:35 mark of the frame. Dylan Schuett added an empty-net goal in the final minute to preserve the 3-1 win for the Wizards. Schuett and Panzeca also each collected a pair of assists in the winning effort. Korbinian Lutz picked up right where he left off as well, stopping 24 out of 25 shots in the victory.
The Wizards will put their 3-game winning streak on the line next Wednesday (January 10th) when the squad will travel down to Hyannis to face-off against the Total Athletic Seahawks. Just 3 days later the boys will head on the road again to play the Connecticut Roughriders to complete the season series with the Central Division pponent.
