EHL Team Enters Playoffs as #4 Seed

BEDFORD, MA -- The Wizards set a franchise record for wins in the 2017-2018 regular season, finishing with a overall mark of 29-18-3 in 50 games, and breaking last year's record of 21 victories. The squad ended the regular season in 3rd place in the Boston Division and they've earned the #4 seed in the EHL Playoffs.

"This was of course our best regular season in franchise history," said Wizards head coach and general manager Freddy Meyer. "Kory [Falite] and I are very proud of that, but we also want to now make a statement in the playoffs."

Devin Panzeca was the Wizards' leading scorer this regular season with 43 goals to go along with 50 assists (93 points), in just 43 total games. The MVP candidate was tied for the league lead in goals and finished second in the points category. The '97 also racked up a 19-game point streak during the season, which was the Wizards' second longest point streak of the year behind his linemate, Dylan Schuett. Speaking of Schuett, the 2000 is a strong candidate for the Rookie of the Year Award and he'll take his active 22-game point streak into the First Round of the playoffs. Both Matt Fuller (27 points) and Mike Bermingham (26 points) made their impacts felt from the blue line, leading all defensemen on the Wizards' in points. Forwards, Michael Namon and Jeremy Vasquez were the only two Wizards players to dress for all 50 games this season, recording 35 combined points between the two. Korbinian Lutz led all goaltenders on the Wizards in wins with 16, to go along with a GAA of 2.81 and 4 shutouts. Alec Marshall collected 10 wins of his own between the pipes, maintaining a 3.04 GAA in that time.

The Wizards will match-up against the #5 Vermont Lumberjacks in the First Round of the EHL Playoffs, an opponent that they held a 3-1-0 advantage over in the regular season. However, in the most recent game between the two teams last week, the Wizards fell in overtime. The Lumberjacks finished the season on a two-game wining streak and are fresh off a 4-1 victory over the Total Athletics Seahawks this past Sunday. The best-of-three series will start tomorrow, March 7th, in Bedford at 1:00pm. Games 2 and 3 are at the same time and at the same place, on Thursday and Friday respectively.
