EHL Team Knocks Off Pair of 1st Place Opponents

BEDFORD, MA -- The East Coast Wizards hit the ice for a trio of games this past week, looking to build off of their win over the Walpole Express on November 30th. After dropping their matchup with the Vermont Lumberjacks this past Wednesday, the Wizards beat a pair of 1st place teams in the Seahawks Hockey Club (Thursday) and New Hampshire Avalanche (Friday).

"The week definitely didn't start off the way we had hoped, but the boys battled back with a couple great games against the Seahawks and the Avalanche," said Wizards head coach and general manager Freddy Meyer. "While we earned 4 key points and added a couple nice wins to our resume, we still haven't accomplished any of our goals so far this season. We need to build off of these, and keep our momentum rolling right up until the holiday break.

With the pair of victories, the Wizards improved their record up to 14-8-1 for the season, and their 29 points places them in 4th place overall in the New England Conference standings.

Looking ahead, the Wizards have 3 games left before the team takes off for the holiday break at the end of the month. The first matchup for the Wizards comes on Thursday, as the EHL team gets a chance to represent the league in an exhibition contest against the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL). Thursday's game is the Wizards only contest at the December Showcase, as the team will then take on the Express and the Seahawks next week to wrap-up the 1st half of the year.

"This will be a good test for our group," added Meyer. "Our success in these 3 games will have a large impact towards the playoff race, and of course, how we feel heading into the holiday break.

EHL Team Preps for 3 Games in 3 Days

BEDFORD, MA -- The East Coast Wizards returned to action this past week, with matchups against the Seahawks Hockey Club and the Walpole Express. Unfortunately for the Wizards the time off for Thanksgiving was very apparent in a 7-0 loss to the Seahawks (Wednesday), but the boys did bounce back with a 2-1 victory over the Express (Friday).

"We were definitely rusty in that game against the Seahawks," said Wizards head coach and general manager Freddy Meyer. "That was by no means the reason why we got shutout the way that we did though. The Seahawks are a darn good team, and they showed our guys exactly why they are in 1st place."

It's well-known how long the season is in junior hockey, and the Wizards still have plenty of time left to better their spot in the New England Conference. Heading into a new week the Wizards own a mark of 12-7-1, and if the playoffs started today, that would make them the 5th seed in the playoffs.

The week ahead features 3 games in 3 days, starting with the Vermont Lumberjacks tomorrow afternoon. The Wizards won the first matchup 3-2 on October 23rd, and tomorrow gives the team a chance at the regular season sweep.

Flip over to Thursday, and the Wizards get a quick chance at revenge against the Seahawks. This week's matchup is the first between the two teams at The Edge Sports Center.

Finally, the Wizards will wrap up the week with a playoff rematch against the New Hampshire Avalanche on Friday.

EHL Team Hits the Ice in Walpole

WALPOLE, MA -- The East Coast Wizards get back to work this afternoon at 12:00pm, for a divisional showdown with the Walpole Express. Powered by 3rd period goals from Steve Rizzuto and Andrew Harley, the Wizards won the first meeting between the 2 teams by the final score of 2-0. Heading into today's matchup, the Wizards own a mark of 11-7-1, and their 23 points puts them just 4 points ahead of Walpole for 3rd place in the division. While the Wizards lost on Wednesday to the Seahawks, the Express are also winless in their last 3 contests.

"It's always tight when we take on Walpole," said Wizards head coach and general manager Freddy Meyer. "Our team was clearly rusty on Wednesday, and you can't play like that when you're taking on the top team in your division. If we want to win today, we'll have to be a lot better then we were against the Seahawks."

Following today's matchup, the Wizards and Express will battle 3 more times during the regular season, with a pair of those games at home.

If you can't make it Walpole for the game, you can catch the action live on HockeyTV. Also, be sure to follow the Wizards on Twitter, for updates throughout today's matchup.
