EHL Team Returns to Action September 18th

BEDFORD, MA – The East Coast Wizards return to action this month, as they get set to begin their 6th season in franchise history. Over their first five years in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL), the Wizards have taken a stride forward with each and every season. From winning their first playoff series during the 2017-18 season, to advancing to the EHL Frozen Finals last year (2018-19 season), Freddy Meyer and the Wizards have embraced the ‘one step at a time’ mentality.

“All of the credit has to go to the players," said EHL head coach and general manager Freddy Meyer. "Each season we are fortunate enough to bring back a small core of guys from the previous year, and they truly help show the new players what we are all about. I’ve never had a specific captain or set of assistant captains while I’ve coached here, because I expect all of my veteran guys to lead.”

This season, Meyer’s core of leaders will include four returning forwards in the likes of Brendan Darby, Carter Elrod, Andrew Harley, and Skylar Pettingill. As for the blue line, the pair of familiar faces to watch will be Gabriel Gagnon and Jimmy Zinter.

Of course, with the rest of the roster all getting set to play their first respective games with the Wizards, there are many players that we will learn more about in the coming weeks.

Taking a deeper look into the Wizards schedule, and this year’s team will get started with three games on the road later this month, against the Vermont Lumberjacks (18th), Seacoast Spartans (20th), and Valley Jr. Warriors (25th). The team’s home opener follows the game with Valley, as the Wizards will host the New England Wolves on Thursday, September 26th at 1:00pm.

“There was nothing specific that went into the way I structured our first month of the season,” added Meyer. “The only thing I prefer is to try and give our team three of four games before the first showcase of the season, and we have exactly that this year.”

That first showcase that Meyer referred too is set for September 29th and 30th at Rodman Arena in Walpole, MA.

EHL Goaltender Set to Join Bison this Fall

BEDFORD, MA -- The East Coast Wizards are pleased to announce that Korbinian Lutz has committed to Nichols College for the fall of 2019. The '98 native of Germany spent a pair of seasons with the Wizards in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL), amassing a total of 35 victories to go along with a 2.68 GAA and a .914 save percentage.

"Korbinian was a huge part of our team these past 2 years," said EHL head coach and general manager Freddy Meyer. "Each year we took another step forward as a program, and it was due in large part to the anchor that we had in net. Kory [Falite] and I can't wait to follow Korbinian as he continues along with his hockey journey."

Looking back on Lutz's pair of seasons with the Wizards, and a constant level of consistency is present throughout his time between the pipes. With eight total shutouts between the two years, Lutz paced the Wizards to back-to-back playoff appearances, advancing to the Second Round in 2018, and all the way to the Frozen Finals this past year. Overall, the German netminder is very happy with the decision he made to join the Wizards organization.

"The East Coast Wizards are a great organization with first-class facilities, that gave me every possible resource to develop my game," said Lutz. "Furthermore, Freddy and Kory made it fun to come to the rink every day and pushed me to get better on and off the ice. During my 2 years with the Wizards I was fortunate enough to be on great teams with a great group of guys which made my time there simply unforgettable.”

The 2019-20 Wizards season will kick-off on Wednesday, September 18th, on the road against the Vermont Lumberjacks. Click here, to view the full regular season schedule.

EHL Forward Set to Join Penmen this Fall

BEDFORD, MA -- The East Coast Wizards are pleased to announce that James Nash has committed to Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) for the fall of 2019. The '98 native of Hampton, NH spent a single season in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL), tallying 16 goals and 23 assists for the Wizards.

"James was one of our top forwards this past season, and he scored a number of big goals for our team," said EHL head coach and general manager Freddy Meyer. "Kory [Falite] and I were very happy with the way Nash developed over the year, and we're looking forward to following him as he takes the next step in his career."

Nash is one of two Wizards players heading to SNHU this fall, as Tim Usalis made the same decision earlier this month. With the pair of commitments, the Wizards have now sent two players to the Penmen in each of the past two seasons. Nash is looking forward to the future and is eager to get started, but the veteran forward is also very appreciative of his time with the Wizards.

"I've never played in a organization that pushed their players day in and day out. It was such a great experience with the Wizards, and truly the best year of my life,” said Nash.

As we work our way through the offseason, be sure to keep an eye on the EHL website (EasternHockeyLeague.org), as the 2019-20 regular season schedule will be released later this month.
